Hyperpigmentation

What cause Hyperpigmentation ? Understanding the Causes of Hyperpigmentation. Melanin production is a natural defense mechanism that protects the skin from free radical damage caused by UV radiation. Sometimes, however, this pigmentation process becomes unregulated. The resulting overproduction and uneven distribution of melanin lead to the formation of dark, hyperpigmented spots. While completely benign, these marks—commonly known as melasma or sun spots (lentigo)—are often an aesthetic concern.
