DESCRIPTION

Mandelic acid peel peeling gentle exfoliation peel

Mandelic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from bitter almonds. It acts as a toning treatment, performing its exfoliating action on the most superficial layers of the skin. This specific peel accelerates cell turnover by breaking the cohesive bonds between the epithelial cells of the stratum corneum. As this layer is gently removed, the underlying skin layers are brought to the surface, resulting in a firmer and more luminous appearance.

It is frequently used to treat dullness, fine lines, wrinkles, and irregular texture, particularly on sensitive skin. Thanks to its unique molecular structure, mandelic acid has the advantage of being non-photosensitizing, making it suitable for use in all seasons. Furthermore, despite its high exfoliating capacity, it is less aggressive than other acids, with minimal to no side effects.

A key distinguishing feature of mandelic acid is its molecular size, which is larger than that of other peeling agents (such as glycolic or pyruvic acid). This results in slower penetration and primarily superficial efficacy. For this reason, mandelic acid is often used in conjunction with other active ingredients, such as salicylic or azelaic acid.

Its low photosensitivity, gentle nature, and controlled penetration identify it as a light-intensity peel, ideal for all skin types and ethnicities (from light to dark skin).

Indications for Mandelic Acid Treatment:

  • Loss of Tone: As we age, fibroblast activity slows down, resulting in decreased collagen and elastin production. This reduction in structural proteins causes the dermis to thin, leading to a loss of firmness and elasticity. Mandelic acid stimulates fibroblast activity to synthesize new collagen and elastin, restoring the skin’s structural components.

  • Superficial Lines and Wrinkles: Alpha-hydroxy acids accelerate cell turnover and remove dead cells from the epidermis. Mandelic acid also helps strengthen the collagen network, which supports the skin’s structure. These factors help prevent the processes that lead to wrinkle formation.

  • Irregular Texture: The exfoliation induced by mandelic acid removes dead surface cells. By clearing this superficial layer, the skin appears more compact and radiant.

Consistent application results in visually smoother skin and a more homogeneous texture. This treatment is often referred to as a “gentle exfoliation” or the “summer peel” because it is not photosensitizing. It acts without causing burning or erythema (redness) on all skin types and ethnicities, with application times ranging from 15 minutes to several hours.

Ingredients: Unbuffered Mandelic Acid 50% (pH 2.0), Salicylic acid, Sweet clover extract, Sodium PCA.
