Spicules: The New Era in advanced aesthetics
If you work in the beauty sector, you have likely already heard about spicules. This cutting-edge ingredient is enjoying growing success in the world of skincare, thanks to its unique features and the tangible results it delivers. Let us now examine what spicules are, what their mechanism of action is, and why it is worth integrating them into advanced aesthetic protocols.
What Are Spicules?
Spicules are microstructures of marine origin, extracted from organisms such as sponges. These small elements feature a needle-like shape and can penetrate the skin in a gradual and controlled manner. Their main role is to promote cellular regeneration and enhance the absorption of active substances present in cosmetic formulations.
Spicule Origins
Originally used in traditional Asian medicine, spicules have also established themselves in the field of dermocosmetics. Their roots lie in ancient beauty rituals aimed at perfecting skin texture. Today, thanks to technological progress, we can harness their benefits through cutting-edge formulations.
How Spicules Work?
Spicules represent a cutting-edge and non-invasive solution in the field of skincare, and their mode of action is based on a truly fascinating process. Specifically, they act by generating micro-channels on the skin surface through massage and without the aid of any device. This method of stimulation ensures a series of important benefits for the skin.
The main and most relevant benefit associated with the use of spicules is the stimulation of natural collagen and elastin production. These proteins are essential for maintaining firm, flexible, and youthful-looking skin. Over time, the synthesis of collagen and elastin tends to decrease, encouraging the appearance of signs of aging such as wrinkles and loss of elasticity.
The action performed by spicules helps to counteract these effects, promoting cellular renewal. In addition, another strong point offered by spicules concerns increasing the skin’s ability to assimilate the active functional substances contained in the products used during the treatment. The micro-channels generated by the procedure allow deeper and more effective penetration of the active components present in derma 2.0 Cocktails or Monoactives mixed with spicule-based neutral serums (Derma-Spicola 05 and Derma Spicola 1).
Why Choose It for Your Treatments
- Stimulation of Collagen and Elastin: Stimulates the skin’s natural mechanisms, fighting the signs of aging, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity;
- Increased Absorption: The generated micro-openings allow a deep and targeted penetration of the mixed Derma 2.0 Cocktails and Monoactives;
- Non-Invasive Methodology: Restructuring result achieved solely through the action of manual massage;
- High Skin Tolerance: Perfect for every skin type, including the most delicate ones, thanks to the neutral and customizable formula.
How to use the 1% Spicule-based neutral serum Derma 2.0
- Cleansing: Cleanse using the specific mousse selected based on the skin type being treated;

- Massage: Massage the resulting mixture onto the face, neck, décolleté, or eye contour area until fully absorbed using the designated massage technique;
- N.B.: During the massage, a slight tingling and warming sensation may be felt (completely normal and tolerable), indicating that the spicules are activating;

- Mask Application: Apply the Derma-Regen soothing mask (a walnut-sized amount) mixed with 2–3 drops of Derma-Sun SPF50+ sunscreen, preferably using a fan brush, and allow to dry;
